BEWARE OF FAMILIAR SPIRITS. Especially in seasons of transition...
Transition is a time of vulnerability.
Familiar spirits often come in as a trusted voice to make you question what God is leading you to. Familiar spirits often masquerade as confirmation or divine direction during seasons of transition and uncertainty. They speak in a tone that feels familiar, echoing fears, old wounds, or even partial truths, to keep you tied to the past or off course. Just remember, they are the counterfeit of the prophetic, so their words may “feel” prophetic in nature, but look for the fruit: confusion and disillusion.
They use Emotional Hooks to Keep You Tethered to the Old Season.
These emotions are often disguised as wisdom or discernment, but in reality, they pull you backward rather than propel you forward. In transition, familiar spirits stir nostalgia, offense, or unresolved pain to prevent you from stepping into the new. They whisper lies like, “you’re safer staying where you were,” or, “you’re not ready.”
The enemy often sends familiar people or counterfeit opportunities during transition. Things that look like your last season but aren’t ordained for your next. These are designed to drain, delay, or distract you.
Want to know one of the biggest telltale signs that a familiar spirit has been on assignment against you?
There is confusion surrounding what you know God initially told you.
What you can do to counteract the attack:
#1. Make God’s voice louder in your heart and mind than any other voice.
Anchor yourself in where He is leading you and what He has promised over your life.
“My sheep know My voice, and a stranger’s they will not follow.” - John 10:5
#2. Break emotional bonds and soul ties with the past.
Renounce every attachment that’s rooted in fear, regret, or nostalgia. Forgive, release to God, and invite Him to fill every space that pain or fear once occupied.
“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.” - Philippians 3:13
#3. Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight what carries His anointing for this new season.
Including relationships, opportunities, and assignments. Protect your time and attention fiercely.
“The steps of the righteous are ordered by the Lord.” - Psalm 37:23
